Jack Siegel quoted in Globe and Mail article
Jack Siegel is quoted in an article in today's Globe and Mail newspaper about the results of a recent Court ordered audit of Vaughan Mayor Linda Jackson's 2006 campaign expenses. That audit, which found several violations of the Ontario Municipal Elections Act, now goes before Vaughan City Council. In a similar case, a Provincial Court judge turned down a request for an audit of the 2006 campaign expenses of Michael Coteau, saying that the courts must give deference to the city audit committees that are appointed to review such challenges. Mr. Siegel, who represents Mr. Coteau, said in an interview that, because the ruling means that a compliance audit committee be given a high level of deference by the court, acommittee's finding on an audit request is far less likely to be overturned than one made by a
municipal council.
