Jack Siegel quoted in Vaughan Today regarding Mayor Linda Jackson's 2006 election campaign finance audit

In the June 26th issue of the Vaughan Today newspaper, Blaney McMurtry lawyer Jack Siegel commented on the continuing problems faced by Vaughan Mayor Linda Jackson following the recent audit of her 2006 election campaign expenses. Ms. Jackson told the press she was unaware of the mismanagement of her campaign finances and would not have condoned it had she been aware. Mr. Siegel, an authority in Canadian election and political law, says that may be enough to save her job, if she can convince the court that this was a case of inadvertence rather than mismanagement. The auditor has been asked by Vaughan Council to establish what penalties the Council should recommend to the court, but it will be up to the judge to make the final determination as to what the penalties will be.
