Stephen Moore Discusses Impact of Ontario’s Bill 18 in Lawyers Weekly
In his article, Who to Sue when Leased Cars Collide, published in the May 2, 2008 issue of The Lawyers Weekly, Stephen Moore discusses Ontario’s Bill 18 which makes renters and lessees vicariously liable for the negligence of automobile drivers. That Bill also caps the maximum liability of owners of rental and leased cars at $1 Million. According to Mr. Moore, those changes mean that plaintiff and defence counsel should modify their approach when determining who to sue following a motor vehicle collision, in order to ensure that they have identified the lessee or renter of any involved vehicle.
