Alex Mesbur has an active, wide-ranging corporate/ commercial practice.
In his general business law practice, Alex provides counsel with respect to many kinds of marketing and distribution arrangements, including franchising, direct selling and 3PL agreements; the sale and acquisition of shares and assets; shareholders' agreements; partnership matters; and a wide range of other business issues.
Alex has significant experience in the competition law implications of prospective mergers and acquisitions, and advises clients generally on competition law compliance issues. He has worked on a number of pre-merger notification and Advance Ruling Certificate filings, particularly in transactions involving transnational insurance companies.
Alex is also a recognized authority on all aspects of commercial leasing. He has acted on many significant commercial lease transactions, ranging from complex multi-floor office leases to large design-build industrial buildings.
In addition to structuring lease deals, Alex provides counsel to Blaneys litigators whose clients are involved in lease disputes.
Alex has served on many Blaney's committees, and recently completed a four year term as head of the firm's Corporate/Commercial Practice Group.
Beyond the particulars of his practice, Alex has an extensive interest in legal education. He was the founding chair of the Queen's Faculty of Law Advisory Council and is a past President of the Queen's Law Alumni Association (Toronto).
Alex has served as a director and audit committee chair of a major Canadian food manufacturer.
He is also a former director and past President of the National Golf Club of Canada.
