Profile

A partner in Blaney McMurtry LLP's Labour and Employment Department, William D. Anderson's experience has led to an expertise in complex labour board litigation. "That includes applications for certification and unfair labour practices," he says. "Anything that falls under the Labour Relations Act could end up being litigated in front of the board."

Bill's busy labour and employment practice also includes negotiating large-ticket severance and wrongful dismissal packages on behalf of executives and other employees. He is particularly active in issues relating to the construction and health care industries.

He acts for international clients in matters relating to employee termination and other aspects of Ontario labour law and, as an example, recently acted for an international client in relation to a plant closure.

Bill also advises clients in the area of employee terminations, wrongful dismissal litigation and corporate reorganizations. His practice also extends to disability insurance claims, employee fraud, employment policies and practices and workplace safety and insurance fraud. Besides the Ontario Labour Relations Board, he also appears regularly before the Ontario Human Rights Commission and private arbitrators.

His regular speaking engagements include topics involving employment and management side labour relations. He spoke to the Canadian Fraud Conference of the Association of Certified Forensic Investigators of Canada on: "An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure." He lectured at the Summer Law Institute for educators at Osgoode Hall on "Recent Issues in Labour Law" and also spoke recently at a seminar on payroll issues.

Bill is a member of the Ontario Bar Association Labour Relations section and volunteer boards of directors.
