Profile
Deborah is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law. She joined Blaney McMurtry in 1998 as leader of the Business Reorganization and Insolvency Group. Deborah advises a broad range of stakeholders (including creditors, court-appointed and privately-appointed creditor representatives, insurers, debtors and others) in complex corporate restructurings, international insolvencies, turnarounds, secured transactions and all types of insolvency matters.
Deborah was Chair of the national Bankruptcy and Insolvency section of the Canadian Bar Association from 2004-2006, and Chair of the Insolvency Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association from 1999-2000. She is currently still on the Executive Committees of both, and is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, INSOL, the American Bar Association, International Bar Association, the Turnaround Management Association, and the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation.
Until its recent restructuring, Deborah was responsible for the Insolvency Law component of the Law Society of Upper Canada Bar Admission Course including all lectures.
Deborah is a past member of the Trustee Licensing Board of Examiners for the oral examinations of prospective trustees in bankruptcy.
She speaks regularly on a broad range of insolvency, secured lending and dispute resolution issues.
