Maureen E. Merrill's extensive experience in corporate/ commercial law has led to an expertise in commercial leasing. "My practice is real estate-oriented with a focus on commercial leasing," she says.
She represents major retail clients, landlords, tenants and private and public companies big and small. She also acts as counsel on behalf of First Nations groups regarding commercial leasing. Her work includes negotiating, drafting and enforcing commercial and residential leases.
While commercial leasing is the focus of her practice, it also includes other real estate transactions such as purchases, sales and mortgage financing. She has negotiated and drafted agreements of purchase and sale and the completion of those transactions.
Prior to joining the Blaney McMurtry LLP in 1997, Maureen was counsel for a major national retail chain. Her responsibilities included negotiating and drafting commercial leases, subleases, lease surrender and lease extension agreements and advising senior management on issues arising from those leasehold interests. She also acted on behalf of the client in respect to land holdings across Canada and in negotiations with various government offices.
As an expert in commercial leasing, she speaks and lectures regularly at conferences and seminars of the retail industry.
