Profile

Patrick J. Cummins acts for clients in connection with mutual fund offerings and public company offerings and specializes in a legal area that changes very rapidly

As an expert in securities law, Patrick feels a critical part of his practice is keeping his clients abreast of rapid changes. "The major thing that's happening in securities law, and especially the mutual fund industry, is that new rules and regulations are being made all the time. Keeping on top of those changes and providing clients with the knowledge of those changes is probably the most important thing that I do.

Since joining Blaney McMurtry LLP he has provided ongoing advice to public and private companies and mutual fund companies. Patrick also services public issuers with respect to regulatory compliance, financing issues, shareholder communications and other regulated matters

Patrick's legal career has been rooted in securities law. Previously, he investigated, evaluated and analyzed complex, corporate/securities law-related errors and omission claims for the Lawyers' Professional Indemnity Company, an insurance company for lawyers

He is also a member of a sub-committee of the Security Advisory Committee to the Ontario Securities Commission regarding new private placement rules

Patrick has been an instructor at the Law Society of Upper Canada's Bar Admission Course. He has written papers on: "The Aftermath of the Bre-X Saga: Is There a Need for Increased Canadian Securities Regulation?" and "Information Technology and the Future of Canadian Securities Law.

He serves on the board of directors of Heart Touching Heart Ministries, a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to keeping youths off the streets of Toronto.
