Russ Hatch is a partner at Blaney McMurtry LLP. He is a member of the Insurance Litigation Group and his practice focuses on insurance defence and commercial litigation matters.
Russ has extensive experience in a wide range of tort matters including personal injury, occupiers and products liability, professional negligence, malicious prosecution, property damage and libel and slander. Russ also defends clients with respect to motor vehicle accident claims, charter issues and police pursuits. Russ is one of the firm’s specialists in automobile insurance issues.
Russ has also developed expertise in representing police and security agencies as well as provincial government ministries and municipalities. He does public liability defence work with a particular focus on police defence issues. His clients include the Ontario Provincial Police and the Peel and Durham Regional Police Services. Russ also represents Ontario Ministries such as Public Safety, Environment and Health and has defended numerous claims against the government.
Russ also represents a number of U.S. based clients with respect to their business interests in Canada, and in enforcing U.S. judgments in Canada.
Russ appears before all levels of court in Ontario including the Ontario Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Russ grew up in Illinois and also lived in Texas, before settling in Toronto. He is called to the Bar in both Ontario and in the State of Texas. A graduate of Indiana University, Russ obtained his J.D. degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1997 and received his LL.B. certification through the University of Toronto in 1998.
