Profile
Tim Alexander’s area of the law is civil litigation and he is widely recognized for his expertise, especially in insurance matters.
He is a director and former President of Risk Management Counsel of Canada, a national association of law firms serving the insurance and risk management industries.
Tim is an expert in professional liability issues, where he has defended engineers from a wide variety of disciplines and ranging from sole practitioners to large multi-service firms. For example, he negotiated a settlement on behalf of a national engineering firm arising from the collapse of an underground tunnel.
"My clients are sophisticated litigants requiring lawyers who can quickly analyze and assess claims and bring them to a prompt and fair resolution," Tim says. "That's my goal in every case."
Initially, Tim’s practice focused on personal injury claims and he gained extensive experience in the area of motor vehicle and occupier’s liability litigation. He remains one of the firm's specialists on automobile insurance issues.
Tim also acts for municipalities with an emphasis on claims involving road design, construction and maintenance.
Tim’s experience in the personal injury and engineering area has also provided him with the legal skills necessary to deal with complex product liability claims, involving the interaction of medical and technical issues.
A graduate of Queen's University, Tim obtained his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1984 and was called to the Bar in 1986. He practiced as an associate in the Litigation Department of Blaney McMurtry LLP for five years and was admitted to partnership in 1991. He acted as co-chair of the Litigation Department from 1993 to 1996.
