Profile

Catherine DiMarco is a partner at Blaney McMurtry. A member of the firm's Commercial Litigation and Architectural, Construction, Engineering Services (ACES) Groups, her practice involves construction, commercial and general civil litigation.

She deals with a variety of clients and issues affecting the construction industry, including construction contract disputes and construction lien litigation. Catherine was a co-presenter at Blaney McMurtry's Construction Law Update seminar on the topic, "Using the Construction Lien Act to your Client’s Advantage - Holdback Funds: Rights and Obligations". She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Women in Construction (CAWIC).

Catherine’s practice is also focused on municipal, planning and building code matters, and leasing litigation. Some of Catherine’s clients include financial institutions and leasing companies whom she assists with enforcing security and collecting debts. She acts for financial institutions in cases where borrowers default on their loans and mortgages, and lessees default on their equipment leases, which often involves exercising power of sale of land and recovering leased equipment.

Catherine has also been involved in enforcing letters of request of foreign courts to compel Ontario residents to be examined under oath in Ontario in respect of foreign proceedings and was successful in responding to a motion to dismiss her client’s Ontario action on the basis of forum non conveniens.

She attended Osgoode Hall Law School from 2001 until 2004. While at law school, Catherine was a member of the Business Clinic, providing advice to small businesses on contractual matters. Catherine also studied for one semester at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, where she obtained First Class Honours.

Prior to starting law school, Catherine worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources’ Aviation, Flood and Fire Management Branch. In 1998, Catherine was the recipient of the Amethyst Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement by Ontario public servants, for her efforts during the Eastern Ontario ice storm.
