Nazli Buhary

Profile

Nazli is an associate in the firm’s Insurance Litigation Group. Nazli’s practice ranges from claims involving municipal and crown liability to motor vehicle accidents, property damage and occupiers’ and product liability.

Before moving to Canada, Nazli was a barrister in Sri Lanka and practised commercial and constitutional litigation. Nazli has trial experience and was also involved as junior counsel in a number of landmark constitutional applications in Sri Lanka. After graduating with honours at the top of her class from the University of Colombo, Faculty of Law, Nazli clerked at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and was adjunct faculty in the law of contracts at the University of Colombo. While at university, Nazli was the recipient of a number of prestigious awards including the Council of Legal Education awards for excellence and best intern, Sir Ponnambalam Arunachalam and A.B. Cooray Memorial Prize for first class standing in second year and final year, and the Hector Jayawardene Memorial Address to the Jury Gold Medal. Nazli was a debater and an editor at university and volunteered at the Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka.

Nazli also speaks fluent Sinhala and Tamil and basic French.
