Mark Lichty was the featured luncheon speaker at the BC Law Society's Annual Insurance Law CLE Conference, Everything you Need to Know About Insurance Law but Were Afraid to Ask, held on September 10, 2010 in Vancouver, BC. The topic of Mark's speech was "Emerging Coverage Issues in the Canadian Insurance Market".
Blaney McMurtry welcomes new Associate, Teri MacDonald, called to the Bar of Ontario in 2008. Teri will practice with the firm's Insurance Litigation Group. Also joining our Insurance Litigation Group is Jay Skukowski. Jay specializes in the areas of motor vehicle accident, property and casualty, and subrogation. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2008.
Henry Chang has been invited to write a guest blog twice a month on the First Reference Talks HR blog, a forum for opinion on human resources and internal controls issues in Canada. Henry's first blog, posted on June 30th, was on Citizenship and Immigration Canada issues important Ministerial Instructions.

On July 1, 2010 Henry Chang will be speaking on global immigration issues at the American Immigration Lawyers Association Annual Conference in National Harbor, Maryland. Henry will lead a roundtable discussion,"Managing Outbound Issues: Appointing your Ambassadors to the World". As the world gets smaller and competition grows, clients expect their lawyers to advise on immigration matters no matter where their final destination may be.
On June 23, 2010, Stephen Moore spoke on "Expert Evidence: How has the Landscape Changed for Counsel, Experts and Triers?" at the Canadian Institute's conference on Advanced Evidence Law and Practice for Civil, Commercial and Administrative Litigation.
On June 2, 2010 Roger Horst spoke to the Group Benefits Group Breakfast, a group of insurance brokers, in Markham, Ontario as part of their continuing education program on the subject of "Errors & Omissions Claims: What to do when they arrive and Best Practices to prevent them".
Janet Bobechko was elected Chair of the Ontario Bar Association's Environmental Law Section last week. Janet has been Vice-Chair for the past two years. The formal transition will take place in June.
Mark Lichty spoke at the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Defence Lawyers Association as a panelist on the topic, "Class Action - Now you See It, Now You Don't", and presented based on a paper, "Insurance Coverage Issues in the Class Action Context" which he co-authored with Jason Mangano.
