The Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, S.C. 2010, c. 21 (the “Act”) came into force on June 20, 2011. It is intended to protect the public by addressing or preventing dangers to human health or safety that are posed by consumer products in Canada, including those that are imported from other countries.
The Act applies to imports of consumer products for personal use as well as for commercial purposes. However, certain provisions (such as the requirement to report incidents and to maintain records) apply only to the manufacturing, importing, advertising or sale of consumer products for commercial purposes.
